Hallo und Herzliche Wilkommen - Hello and welcome!

I am currently studying intermediate level German in Munich. I completed my B2.2 German at Volkshochschule München, B2.1 from LMU and B1 from Goethe Institute. I started writing this blog (since level A2.1) in order to share what I learn during the lectures. I envisaged it to be a personal note to myself more than anything else. Nevertheless, if anything written here proves to be useful to you, please do leave a comment. I will continue to upload content as I learn new things, hence it is better to read older posts before reading new ones.
Let's start learning!

Wieviel - How much?

das Prozent

There was a pie chart shared in the lecture today showing what percent of Germans participating in a survey thought that family is very important. There were two main takeaways, one was how to say fractions in German and another was making sentences using dass.

  • 50% = die Halfte der Deutschen ...
  • 25% = das Viertel der Deutschen ...
  • 33% = das Drittel der Deutschen ...
  • 2/3 = zwei Drittel der Deutschen ...

Grammar

As with sentences with weil, when dass is used, the main verb in the Nebensatz (supporting sentence) goes to the end. Here are some examples:

  • Die Grafik zeigt, dass 2% der Deutschen die Familie sehr wichtig finden.
  • Ich glaube, dass es sehr wichtig ist.

Niemand and Hälfte are singular. All others are plural.

Vocabulary

  • das Prozent: percent
  • confidential: vertraulich
  • niemand: no one
  • die Hälfte: half
  • ungefähr: around, approximately
  • mindestens: at least
  • niemand: no one
